Where Terrain reads your data

Which one is you?

Cloud billing connected

Connect AWS, Azure, or GCP billing (or Databricks tied to a cloud account) and Terrain reads the data inside your cloud. Your data stays under your access controls.

AI and data tools only

If your relevant sources are Vercel, Snowflake, BI tools, or AI providers with no direct cloud billing, Terrain can host the read-only analysis so you do not have to stand up a cloud deployment just to prove the job.

Connected cloud billing uses the first posture by default. Enterprise adds deployment support, security review, and custom controls on top of either option.

Sources Terrain supports

What counts as a source

When a tier says "1 cloud" or "1 platform," this is what it means.

Cloud billing

AWS, Azure, GCP

Also captures cloud-native AI (AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Foundry / Azure OpenAI, Google Vertex AI, Google Gemini paid API, Snowflake Cortex, Databricks Foundation Models) and enterprise Cohere where it appears in the bill.

Data and AI platforms

Snowflake, Databricks

Direct AI providers

OpenAI, Anthropic

Mistral and xAI (Grok) coming next. What Terrain shows depends on what the provider exposes and your entitlement.

Other platform billing

Planned

Vercel, Redis, Grafana Cloud, and similar supported sources

Shipped-only in the examples list. Planned rows are on the near-term roadmap.

Need detail? Expand a band.

Rows marked Planned or By agreement are not sold as generally available features.

Evidence Terrain can use

The source truth Terrain uses to answer a decision question. Every plan carries source truth with missing-data honesty; what changes is how much of it Terrain can see.

Team context and decisions

How your team's context flows into the answer, gets saved into a decision, and turns into follow-through. Team Pulse is what the team thinks, not measured evidence, and it respects the permission boundaries of every channel it comes from.

Value denominator

The business measure Terrain needs before it can call something ROI: revenue, margin, productivity, quality, or customer outcome.

Data and AI platforms

Warehouses, lakehouses, search and vector stores, and data platforms where usage, compute, and AI workload cost converge.

Cloud-resident analysis

FAQ

Common questions about Terrain pricing.

Is Free First Findings a trial?+
No. Free First Findings is a free proof tier. You connect one proof source (cloud cost data, Anthropic or another supported AI provider, Snowflake, or Databricks) and get one source-truth-backed first read. You can ask scoped follow-up questions inside that finding, but it does not become the ongoing daily brief. Until self-serve onboarding is live, schedule a short call and we will set up your first proof source with you.
What should I connect first?+
If you want the broadest economic proof, start with cloud billing data. Terrain can show recoverable optimization capacity, attribution gaps, commitment coverage, and cloud-billed AI spend where present. If your urgency is AI spend, start with Anthropic, OpenAI, or another supported AI provider. Terrain will show unit economics, spend drift, model mix, and missing value-denominator truth without overclaiming ROI. If your urgency is warehouse or lakehouse spend, start with Snowflake or Databricks. Terrain shows native-unit waste, usage patterns, and attribution gaps, and where Cortex or Serving is connected, AI workload unit economics inside the data platform.
Why price by decision scope instead of percentage of spend?+
Because Terrain should not make more money when your waste grows. The tier progression matches how technology decisions actually scale inside a company: prove it, one team decides, teams agree, company governs, company standardizes. Percentage-of-spend pricing creates the opposite incentive. The vendor wins when your bill grows.
Do you charge per seat?+
No. Terrain is meant to become a shared operating surface for Finance, Engineering, AI leadership, and executives. Add the people who need the answer.
How does Terrain capture what my team knows?+
  • Starter: in-app comments plus Slack or Teams from one workspace, with 6 months of team context to search.
  • Growth: Slack and Teams across teams, cross-team context search, and 18 months of retention.
  • Pro: team context searchable across sources and decisions, with 3 years of retention and review-ready decisions.
  • Enterprise: custom retention and compliance controls, custom review workflows, and deployment support with security review.
  • Comments always respect the permission boundaries of the channel they came from.
Is Team Pulse employee surveillance?+
No. What we call Team Pulse is what your team thinks about an answer, metric, chart, source, or decision: reactions, comment types, recurring concerns, and open blockers. It is context, not measured evidence, and it is never presented as proof. It is not tied to individual productivity scores or evaluations, and it respects the permission boundaries of every channel it comes from. Human comments and reactions inform decisions; they do not replace source truth.
Can Terrain show AI ROI?+
AI spend is not AI ROI. Terrain shows usage, spend, token economics, model mix, and provider-exposed workflow activity when a connected source supports it. Company-wide adoption evidence depends on the provider's enterprise or admin analytics. Terrain only calls it ROI when a real value denominator supports it: revenue, margin, productivity, or quality.
Does cloud AI spend require a separate AI connector?+
No. If Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Vertex AI, or similar cloud-native AI spend appears in connected cloud billing data, Terrain can show it as cloud-billed AI spend. Direct AI provider connectors add richer usage, token, model, request, and unit-economics detail.
What is on the roadmap vs. shipped today?+
  • Rows marked Planned are on the near-term roadmap; rows marked By agreement are delivered as part of an Enterprise agreement. Neither is sold as a generally available feature.
  • Custom retention and compliance controls: available by agreement.
  • Turning approved follow-ups into accountable work in your team's tracker: Planned.
  • BI KPI import and connected business systems: coming online tier by tier as we validate the integrations customers most need.
